An old presbytery where a Cahors with a very particular style is
produced with craftsmanship.
Antonin Resses inherited the Château La Caminade in 1880. At the time, the Château
produced table wine made from Auxerrois, Gamay and hybrid vines. However, the real
beginning of the Château history began in 1973, when Léonce Resses, Dominique's father
(Dominique Resses still produce wine on the estate today) decided to commercialise his own
bottled wine instead of selling it loose to merchants. His son returned to the estate in
1982 with a degree in Oenology in his pocket. Thanks to the father's experience and
the new ideas brought by the sons, progress has been continious and the wine more
selective. "My wine is suitable for ageing but is supple, full bodied and shouldn't
be kept longer than 10 years". His second son Richard came back to work at the estate
in 1987.
Château La Caminade rapidly became one of the best of the appellation, a great success
proven by the number of medals it has won and a brillant review by the famous Hachette
guide. "One of the best Cahors wine in the decade" according to Pierre
CASSAMAYOR, author of "Vignes et vignerons du soleil" and jounalist for
"Vins de France" magazine.
There are 2 vintages: Château La Caminade and La Commandery, aged solely in barrels.
Dominique Resses has got to know the method of ageing in wood, which gives structured
Cahors wine an extra touch of refinement. He exchanges ideas with other Cahors wine
producers and also those from Madiran like Patrick Ducourneau. Since 1993 he has used only
Auxerrois grapes for the Commandery vintage, probably infuenced by the success of Madiran
wine which uses 100% Tannat grapes. The Auxerrois on it's own suffices for Dominique
Resses, particulary as the grapes are very strictly selected.
These ideas show that Cahors wine, a relatively young appellation, has taken a step
forward in the search for it's identity. The older wine makers, as well as the new, are
trying to use Auxerrois grapes to perfect their wine. Along with their colleagues from
Madiran, even without a driving force like A. Brumont, they are playing the originaly
card, to the great joy of wine lowers fed up with Cabernet Sauvignons produced in the
same, uniform manner throughout the world.
